New article in "CB news Web n°4 (september 2000) about software
patents.
Author: Frédéric Couchet, chairman of "April"
He says
interestings thing:
1) "Les experts en propriété intellectuelle, à la
fois juge et parties, devraient obtenir gain de cause dans l'indifférence
générale, [...]"
( Experts in Intellectual Property are juges and have
direct benefits from the law they are going to vote, with noone caring about
it.)
2) Life time of a patent is 20 years where a software life is 3
years at most.
3) generally speaking, patens benefits big enterprises and
big agencies.
4) Every software violates one on more patents (it uses
codes from others)
5) Only big enterprises and big agencies have enough money to buy lots of
patents from one of their software.
The question today is "Do you really want to align Europe on USA patents
system ?",
maybe it soon will become "Is there enough layers in Europe to
treat all software patents enfrigments [from the new law] ?"...
