Since Jean-Paul has organised quite a lot of activities involving sales
promotion for small companies, he is not in a bad position to having a
clear view.  Of course it is a somewhat theory-based view, not the view of
a lawyer in charge of killing competitors.

I am sure that if it was possible to obtain a killing license under some
conditions, there would be people who advocate that such a system is
absolutely necessary for companies to survive, and any humanitarian who
believes in basic freedom rights etc is unrealistic and theoretical.

Not true.
Companies like Phaidros, Intradat, Mdlink, Troll etc write software
themselves.

On the other hand, many of those who obtain patents do not write software
but produce only patents.
