About the Diplomatic Conference of November 2000 in Munich

to change the European Patent Convention

Hi,

I have attempted to summarize the situation on a document now placed
on the web:

  http://pauillac.inria.fr/~lang/patents/diplo.html

  all comments welcome
  --------------------

It concerns article 52.2 about software patenting, as well as
article 33.1 about the changes to the convention.

I wish to stress that the proposed modifications to article 33.1 are
VERY DANGEROUS, FOR ALL FIELDS OF TECHNOLOGY, since it gives the OEB
the right to change rules on its own, which is contrary to any
democratic process, even though they pretend it will be limited by
other international treaties.

STOP 52.2 and 33.1

pass this information to your political representatives.
They are probably unaware of this.

Mention 33.1 to other organization, especially those concerned with
patenting bio-technologies.

URGENT

Bernard Lang
