Open Source Software received increasing interest among technical communities and universities probably since Arpanet was founded in 1968. Recently, Open Source Software has gained interest among investors and entrepreneurs and several companies are founded based on Open Source Software.

The business models and value chains change along with the type of software development. These changes are interesting for the business side of the academic world and are one of the reasons to conduct exploring research in this area.

The goal of this research is to analyze the business opportunities around Open Source Software to provide a better understanding of the business side and the future direction. The research is conducted in cooperation with the Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands, faculty of Business Administration.
