Actually Australia may be moving in the right direction, into which France
already went a few years ago.

It is normal that patent lawyers don't like it and file ridiculous patents
in order to arouse a backlash based on misunderstandings.

The ffii law initiative no 5 also suggests to replace the examination
system with a registration system, of course alongside with some
incentives for others to invalidate the patent. Such incentives of course
would make it very expensive for someone to patent the wheel.
