"So much better manners" are not the french way.
Bernard was making is point, telling you about his feelings. You're objecting 
because he expressed it in a way you are not accustomed to. This is 
primarily a cultural point. Most people on this list will not be chocked by 
what or how he told it. He never intended to offense you, he just choosed 
provocation as an expression mode to try to awake you, presumably to your own 
good. And as he said "ironic tone sometimes is only a protection against 
crying". God knows how much I cry too over children fate.

You can take it or leave it. You can try to understand the underlying point 
without feeling ressents or you can go back to some WASP friends and feel 
disgusted together seeing how crude and unmannered the Franks are. I hope you 
will make the first choice so we may have more interesting discussions and 
exchanges of views, between entities gathered by their opposable thumbs and 
not parted by their flags, nor an irrepressible tendancy to apologize for 
anything.

So, please, please understand this mannered, polite message, for the next 
time I could so well be tempted to express myself in the same fucking direct 
langage I cherish too.
