A recent DPA (Deutsche Presse Agentur), taken up by heise.de, cites a EU
report which cites EU info soc commissioner Liikanen as saying that while
EU software companies have caught up with the US and are not as badly hit
by the recession in this sector as are US companies, there is a lack of
innovativity, of R&D spending, and of patenting activities in this field.
This statement is said to be supported by a study report. But I have so
far not been able to find either the original statement or the study
report. It would be especially interesting to know what is meant by "R&D
spending" and how this is estimated.
