Subject: [Patents] DGIM meeting on Community Patent

Under

 http://europa.eu.int/rapid/start/cgi/guesten.ksh?p_action.gettxt=gt&doc=MEMO/01/448|0|RAPID

you can find the basic thoughts of DGIM (Bolkestein) on the community
patent outlined:

Cheap availability of patents as a key to innovation and prosperity, EPO
to handle the community patent, no talk of limits to patentability or of
any reform to the current system, patents in English or a small set of
official languages only, centralised European jurisdiction system.

The Eurolinux proposals at

	http://www.eurolinux.org/news/cpat01B/

have not had any impact so far. Matters are still decided among those who
have through their socialisation accepted the patent system as it is as a
kind of god-given law whose only possible development is one of expansion.
