The DRM OS concept works only if it is backed up by laws that require all
machine vendors to construct the machines in such a way that they work
only with a DRM OS. This has been and is being attempted in the US, but
companies like IBM are against it. One of the proposals is called SSSCA.
Given the DRM OS patent, such a proposal could be tantamount to an
official sanctioning of Microsofts OS monopoly position. Even without the
patent, the introduction of SSSCA would reinforce the MS monopoly and make
free software impossible.
