WIPO consultation end on ferbruary 15th

Overview

In order to continue to provide strong leadership in the development
of the patent system, the Director General of WIPO has announced a new
initiative, - the WIPO Patent Agenda, - which is intended to launch
worldwide discussions for the purpose of preparing a strategic
blueprint for the future evolution of the international patent system
(IPS). The discussions are expected to focus on the increasing demands
of global users and the further development of the international
patent system so that it may become more user-friendly and accessible,
and provide a more equitable balance between the rights of inventors
and the general public, while at the same time taking into account the
possible implications of any change on the developing world.

To facilitate full participation and transparency, the Secretariat
will accept comments from all interested parties until February 15,
2002 (rather than the previously announced deadline of the end of
January 2002).



WIPO will convene a Conference on the International Patent System in
Geneva, Switzerland March 25 - 27, 2002 in order to discuss the WIPO
Patent Agenda.
