new german law forces patenting of university research

This can become a major problem for the open source culture of
universities and thereby for their productivity, and I suspect that
the whole plan will not work.  A short public discussion with a
responsible MP showed that the legislator has almost blindly followed
the simplistic explanations of the universitarian patent lobby and not
considered the risks involved in this.
