Stallman: Patents victimize developers

Explains quite well how software patents achieve the opposite of
stimulating innovation and disclosure.

The discussion on ZDNet is full of people with the usual prejudices, a
good place for collecting FAQ questions.  It seems again that the
mind-matter distinction is difficult for the people hanging around at
zdnet.  Many believe that applied mathematics is different from
mathematics, that there is a difference between concrete and abstract
algorithms etc or that the universe consists of algorithms (pantheism,
co-design cosmology).  Stallman already does quite a good job of
explaining the difference in vivid terms, but apparently the barriers of
understanding are greater.
