Nokia 20-F 1998:

"Nokia is actively involved in and strongly promotes the creation
of open standards, resulting in even higher global volumes, economies of
scale and rapid migration towards the wireless information age. The
future third generation cellular networks are expected to be operational
in the early years of the next millennium."

"Nokia management believes that rapid, innovative and regular new
product introductions are critical in order for Nokia to maintain its
leading position in the global market for mobile phones. Such
introductions include both new versions of existing products and
completely new models. Depending on products, it generally takes Nokia
from less than a year to two years to develop a new product line from
the research stage to final production."

Will Nokia slow down its developement cycle to synchronize with the
patent system?

Why is the _only_ reason behind Nokia not developing LinuxPhones
Juridical and not Technical?

rough translation: "On his presentation Mr. Jari Pasanen shall tell
about trends of open source in mind of needs of Nokia focused to Linux
in mobile telecoms. He thinks about technical possibilities, business
models and challenges about immaterial properties with examples."

Unfortunatelly I don't have notes from Pasanens lecture.

Ericsson has now settled a patent licence deal with Interdigital to pay
50.000.000 EUR until 2006.

Does Nokia really need to extend that threat from US companies? Does not
the fear for infringement lawsuits increse with more patentable subject
matter?

I cant find that fear described in 20-F of 1998. I think it is
introduced in the 2000 report, when US style patentability was
completely established at the EPO.
