This document is very interesting, most of the amendments would be very
important to keep the directive (one of the amendments waht to make it a
regulation instead) on the right course, with patentabilty of computer
programs admitted only in conjuction with acquisition of knowledge on
manipulation of forces of nature, and not per se.

Article 5 is the most addressed, here there are clear positions of
people against patetnatbility of programs per se and people in favour.
While people countrary gives interesting and sane explanations, the
others (in favour of swpat) simply give as excuse that UBE already have
a practice and we should follow it blindly.

Willy Rothley amendments are genrally unclear and interesting is their
comment: "the amendment explain itself" ...

Very positive are many amendements that explain what technical means and
that it only have meaning in industrial applications.

There are also some very interesting amendments that would dictate clean
separation between different forms of protection of software like
patents and coppyright and the fact that the two (and one amendment
prevents any other form of license or restriction) must not clash and
sum together.
Also interesting are few amendments the require more transparency and
ask for the commented source code of the programs that are part of a
patent.

Evelyne Gebhardt, Luis Berenguer Fuster and others have made a very good
job into clarifying the text and making strict limitations on software
patentability in the true spirit of the original convention.
