For many of us that work in communications hardware, especially those
like myself that create circuits outside an industrial context,
circuits are authored in a communications/governance context.

There are way too many modal equivalences between hardware and software,
especially in the context of hardware/software codesign tools, for their
patentabilities not to be equivalent as well.  And increasingly, there
are similar equivalences between hardware/software and CAD in many
other fields of technology.  Software is just another technology with
an industry making products.  Technology - industry - products --> patents.
