At

you find a photo of McCarthy, Plooj Van Gorsel and a few other MEPs
taken during a visit in US.

EIF, the European Internet Foundation, provider of "Political
Leadership for Network Society", is a lobbying organisation which
gives MEPs the title of "EIF governor" and brings them together with
business representatives, mainly from large corporate members, for
pleasant gatherings.  I also had the opportunity to visit an EIF
dinner, as described at

        http://swpat.ffii.org/events/2002/europarl11/#lobb

The text around the photo of the MEPs says:

For the second year in a row some of the MEP governors of the European
Internet Foundation went on a successful fact-finding mission to
Washington DC, kindly organised by the Internet Caucus Advisory
Committee. Highlights included meetings with Senator Patrick Leahy,
and Congressmen Bob Goodlatte and Rick Boucher.

The mission kicked off with a site visit by some of our MEPs to
  Microsoft and Boeing in Seattle.

Monica Ridruejo MEP, Arlene McCarthy MEP, Elly-Plooij-van Gorsel MEP
and Roy Perry MEp about to embark on a visit of Boeing's construction
  facilities.
