Subject: [Patents] Newscan: a little collection of latest talk

http://news.zdnet.co.uk/business/0,39020645,39116895,00.htm

Here is what I sent to Mr Matthew Broersma, the author, ZDNET, however still
without an answer:

Thank you very much for your article.

Quote:
For example, if a patented e-commerce technology is enforceable in the US
but not the EU, US users could be breaking the law by accessing an EU Web
site that used the technology, according to Gartner.
*****
Well, maybe soon they will not be also allowed to leave the country as not
too learn to much about free market!

However the quote bellow shows that at least in one point an European
consensus can be reached, also in favour for development in US:

(Quote)

********
The amendments also sought to ban the patenting of "business methods", such
as Amazon's patent on "One-Click" purchasing. In the US, business methods
and pure software are routinely patented, a situation which has been harshly
criticised by IT executives, software developers, economists and others as
harmful to competition and innovation.

*********

I can also add that *business methods* were very effectively protected in
Stalin's Soviet Union were market mechanisms were effectively eliminated in
over 70 years. Legal protecting of business methods seems to be a syndrome
of temporary and destructive over dominance of particular market players.

Best regards
Jacek Gancarson
