- Date: Wed, 22 Oct 2003 21:53:06 +0200 (CEST)
Hello!
Small intro:
Acacia Research claim they have patent on all video/sound
communication on the internet which inlcude all ways on sending
video on the internet even if it's zipped and sent with FTP.
http://www.acaciaresearch.com
Now this affect almost every little site with som
multimeda on it and especially schools, news, porn, onlinevideo etc.
With The new laws in Europe for software patents I wonder if
their european patents is still valid here ?
Seems they have patent on an Idea:
Video -> compressed -> sent to viewier -> viewed
If this goes to court, Acacia is suing alot of companies, will
they have any chance in Europe ?
I understand US has different laws regarding this so I guess
they have a chance to win over there but I really hope we in
Europe don't have such stupid laws.
Anyone ?
PS: I can't afford a lawer that probably know less than me
already do figure this out so I hope someone here knows something
or are very interested in knowing :-). I e-mailed a few news companies
here but they have done nothing even if their own sites is using their patent.
Regards Jerry
