BTW, as an answer to my original mail, here is what I received
off-list (nicely ironical):

1) I sent my original mail to warn the webmaster. This one was not
necessarily aware of the problem (and if the problem lasts too long, 
people who want to sign up go away and might well never come back).

2) Such a mail shouldn't be sent off-list (imagine 1000 people pointing 
out the problem and sending 1000 mails to Hartmut...).
