Many of the actions before the Council and the European Parliament produce
benefits which go far beyond their immediate scope, triggering positive
changes across many areas. An example is the Community Patent. Once
implemented it will not only improve the functioning of the Internal Market,
but also provide more affordable ways of translating research results into
commercial applications. Every day that passes without companies being able
to protect their inventions affordably on an EU-wide basis will see Europe
losing important productivity gains arising from the Internal Market,
research and development and entrepreneurial initiative.
