Microsoft has been awarded a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on writing Windows applications in HTML.

According to the application, the patent covers writing a standard HTML file that runs in its own window outside of the browser.

The standalone computer application allows an HTML author to read and write from a user’s local computer and perform scripting of frames between domains.

The patent was awarded on December 9.
