!20031223  IRS to crack down on bogus patent donations

...

But such companies are not the only people to receive lumps of coal this
year for their naughty acts in the patent world.  Santa gave me a peak
and boy, was his list long.

    ...

    - FTC Commissioner Muris gets two lumps of coal for overseeing the
release of the bogus FTC report on patent reform, one lump for each
of the two lies of ommission that are missing from the beginning
of the FTC report: 1) the lack of a review of why patent quality
reform proposals in the past have gone nowhere, and 2) the lack of
recognition of the many vested interests who oppose reform.

    ...

    - The European Patent Office gets its coal for continuing to stick
to the fiction that "technical effect" can't be much better
    defined

    - The European Parliament gets its lump of coal for continuing to
stick to the fiction that it understands science and technology,
to be shared with the US Congress for injecting religion into the
patent law (with its recent cloning patent nonsense) while refusing
to stop the theft of PTO fees (apparently that Commandment doesn't
    apply to PTO fees)

    - Andy Grove, for pretending to be interested in the issue of
patent quality, taking the role formerly acted out by Jeff Bezos
(whose interest in patent quality conveniently lasted until the
uproar about the one click patent was over)

    ...

G.A. gets his coal for continuing to reiterate long-refuted prejudices of
the patent movement and for continuing his business model of "promote a
disease, sell a medicine".
