That may be true to some extend, but I don't see why it should stop 
anything. I see 2 solutions: 

- you can help promote the events in places near Brussels (benelux,
northen France, western Germany, UK? ...), where near = cheap and
convenient to get there, so that a lot of (local) people goes.

- you can promote it elsewhere, so that a little more people 
goes there from far away (that is publicity trying to compensate
for cost/inconvenience).

- you can organise events somewhere else and announce them here. 
If I can I'll at least pass the word if I see the point.

But I don't think pointing out the possible problems with plans
is an excuse for doing nothing (besides what you might already 
have done). What you propose (writing to EU officials) has 
already been done to some extend and is not so easy to do as
to say. And I'm not opposing to it, and don't see how one 
action would impede the other.

Anyway, it's possibly not the best list for this thread.
I'll leave it here.
