Dear Greg,

Let me speak for myself, I also wanna make money. We are not so different:

I have an Essec diploma (the equivalent a local MBA in France) and did law=
=20
studies. I once thought being a lawyer could be fun, but when I looked at=
=20
their daily work, I changed my mind.

With the possible arrival of software patents in Europe, I asked myself=20
several times, even recently, whether I should not continue my legal studie=
s.

One more year and I can become a lawyer! I would probably earn 100 times as=
=20
much being a lawyer. Very temptative instead of working in a real company=
=20
producing real software.=20

You are probably aware that GNU/Linux is that largest collaboration project=
=20
since man went on the moon.

Therefore, diging into GNU/Linux and registrating patents, I would probably=
=20
become very rich.

In reality, we all have a personal choice. Even the German soldiers in=20
concentration camps probably had a choice.

If you dig further into your mind, you may find a difference between "law" =
and=20
"justice". If you studied law, you probably know this distinction. To be=20
short:

- "Law" is what currently applies and is accepted by society. Sometimes, la=
ws=20
are designed by powerfull lobbies for the only interest of a small group of=
=20
people or individuals.=20

- "Justice" is a superior criteria of law, which lies in everyone of us and=
=20
what makes us belong to Humanity.

Obviously, you are not on the side of "justice" but only trying to adapt "l=
aw"=20
to fit your personal interest and the interest of large companies.

You should be aware that all these discussions are archieved over the=20
Internet. What will your grand-grand-grand children thinkwhen they discover=
=20
that you are working on the side of doomless, proposing us to come back to=
=20
the 17th century where governments granted patents to industrials.

If you really believe in humanity, it is still time to cancel your lobbying=
=20
contract with large companies and fight for freedom.=20

Regards,
Jean-Michel Pour=C3=A9
