An american point of view about EU software patent war in the
IEEE journal :

http://csdl.computer.org/comp/mags/so/2004/05/s5101.pdf

"Gosnell predicts Parliament won't pass the Council's version of the
directive. The co-decision process might not prove effective, either,
he says. In this case, software patent law in Europe could remain
much the same, he says, continuing somewhat inconsistent treatment
of software patents, particularly in conjunction with enforcement efforts."

If that's really a good US point of view, I, an EU citizen, really wish he
could be right !
