Gregnews reports that Palm is paying up to Xerox.  This reminds me somehow of
Sun paying up to Kodak to clear Java from patent threats, but the amount to
be paid here seems more modest:

The 29 June edition of the Wall Street Journal reports that Palm has
agreed to pay Xerox $22.5 million to settle a patent infringement lawsuit
involving technolgy that converts penstrokes on PDAs into characters and
words.  The companies have been fighting over this patent for seven years.
The payment covers a paid-up license for three Xerox patents, including
the patent for Unistrokes.  The companies also agreed to "patent peace",
that is, a seven year covenant not to sue within mutually agreed fields
  of use.
